What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient healing technique based on the principle that there are zones and reflexes on the feet, hands, face and ears that directly correspond with organs, glands, chakras and other areas of the body. Energy comes to an end where the reflexes are found in the feet and hands. If the energy circulation is blocked, it shows up in the reflexes as pain or soreness. These reflexes are stimulated by using the thumb, fingers and hand techniques which can trigger physiological changes that aid the body and mind to heal. The main focus of reflexology is a deep sense of relaxation.
Reflexology is over 5,000 years old and has origins in both China and Egypt, where pressure point therapies were recognised to have therapeutic benefits and also helped prevent disease. The wonderful art of foot reflex therapy was not introduced to the Western World until the twentieth century when Dr Fitzgerald, an American physician, began to develop zone therapy, which is Reflexology as we know it today.
A Reflexology Session
Reflexology is used purely as a relaxation therapy in this practice or as part of a Kinesiology session.
A brief medical and lifestyle history will be taken before the session. You will remain fully clothed throughout and it is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to your feet and lower legs.
The zones and reflexes of the feet are stimulated using various hand techniques. The entire surface area of the foot is worked on, where the practitioner concentrates on blockages or sore points which may relate to imbalances in specific areas or organs within the body.
The reflexology treatment is completed with a de-stressing foot massage and clients usually feel calmer, relaxed and more revived after a reflexology treatment. Reflexes found on the hands, face and ears may also be stimulated.
